Is Kingkiller Chronicles worth the hype?

Yes, it is, King Killer Chronicles is one of the best fantasy novel series of all time. It is the story of Kote/Kvothe an Assassin who is in disguise as an innkeeper at Waystone Inn. He is narrating his story to a chronicler in three days.

·         Day 1 - The Name of the Wind

·         Day 2 - The Wise Mans’s Fear

·         Day 3 – The Doors of Stone (unpublished)

What makes it interesting?

I was fed up of the cliché hero who crush the villains and save the people. While skimming through social media I came across this novel. The blurb of the KKC says like this “I have stolen Princess from sleeping barrows…” normal boasting stuff in fantasy novels, but the author is brilliant. He made the story realistic; the protagonist is not as heroic as the summary suggests. He tells each and every incident that happened to him to a chronicler. The real story, not the made-up ones. Because people make different stories when you are an assassin. When you got trained from a magic school, the stories get more imaginative. The author not only made the story realistic he also made the magic system much better than others.

In KKC, the magic is called Sympathy. Most of the Sympathy is explained scientifically along with the consequences we have to face. There are different types of Magic system in Fantasy novels. The one you see in Lord of the rings is an easy one in which the magic is not explained which is a little different in Harry Potter.

Minor spoiler: The title The Name of the Wind is a type of sympathy, in the book Kvothe tries to call the wind without knowing severe consequences and eventually gets hurt.

Rothfuss magically created a poetic world in KKC. Without music, there are no Kvothe. He mastered Lute (similar to a guitar). His father was the head of a troupe “Edema Ruh”. They travel around the “Four Corners of Civilization” entertaining with real stories. He was trained by his parents from childhood.

The inner story arc is also great. The Mythology of Imre, Myr Tariniel, and the Chandrians play an important part in the story. The world-building is exceptional with microscopic detailing by the author.

This not everyone’s cup of tea

Because you won’t be seeing a hero that saves people by heroic act

You won’t be seeing an action-packed plot throughout the series.

For a realistic story, for a musical journey, for one of the best world-building in a fantasy series, For the author’s writing style go for “The Name of the Wind”.

Some of my favorite quotes are:

·     “Bones mend. Regret stays with you forever.”

“The best lies about me are the ones I told.”

“It's like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story.”

Now I’m back at Camp Half-Blood with new Heroes Jason, Piper, and Leo. And the new great prophecy has begun.  Keep in touch with me for more bookish reviews and check out my other blogs.
