Can movies and shows create an impact as same as books?

 

It depends on the adapted material. I saw a bunch of movies and shows that are adapted from novels, but only a handful of them is faithful to the source. Like Godfather, Ready Player One, Birdman, The  Martian, etc. 

 Consider Harry Potter, it was so good, but after reading the 7 books, the movies are just fine. They were faithful to the source even though they missed some details. It also has one of the best casts for a fantasy movie other than Lord of the Rings. LOTR was also faithful to the source. 

Some of the movies are awful compared to the source example Percy Jackson. Thankfully Rick Riordan announced a PJ series by Disney. Hope it gets better this time.

Now The White Tiger and Dune is getting a movie. We can really hope it turns out as good as the books.

Moving to web series, since it has a long-running time it can be faithful to the material. Game of Thrones was faithful to the material until season 5 since the author hasn't finished writing the series.
